As an actor/musician he’s had the chance to play many of the musical greats of the 20th century including Woody Guthrie (Woody Sez at Irish Repertory Theatre, NYC); Johnny Cash in 15 productions of Ring of Fire (including the European premiere in Vienna, Austria); John Denver in Almost Heaven: John Denver’s America (Riverside Theatre); Carl Perkins in several productions of Million Dollar Quartet and the world premiere of Million Dollar Quartet Christmas (Phoenix Theatre); Buddy Holly in Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story. Other credits include Guy in Once; Jesus in Godspell (Ivoryton Playhouse); Tully in Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville (Actors’ Playhouse and John W. Engeman Theatre); Pump Boys & Dinettes and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Flat Rock Playhouse). TV: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Sam is also in a band with Matt Cusack (Hoss) called The Playbillies which does bluegrass covers of songs from Broadway musicals.
