CASTING BREAKDOWNS

Florida Rep is seeing submissions for the following roles, as well as understudy and swing opportunities. For pre-cast roles, auditioning performers will be considered possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.

A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER Book & Lyrics by Robert L. Freedman, Music & Lyrics by Steven Lutvak. Dir: Jason Parrish. Music Dir: Victoria Casella. Choreographer: Kyle Brand. 1st Reh: 12/17/24. Runs: 01/07/25 – 01/26/25. In Florida Rep’s Historic Arcade Theatre.

Monty Navarro: Male. 30s. Handsome and effortlessly charming, clever and charismatic, vulnerable and endearing, with a highly developed appreciation for life’s ironies. High baritone with a strong top; solid low A to high A.

Miss Shingle: 50s-60s. A Cockney housekeeper/governess who served a wealthy, titled family for 30 years. Must be a strong character actress. Mezzo soprano, G to high A. May play other roles.

Sibella Hallward: Female. Late 20s-mid 30s. A calculating, willful, flirtatious narcissist with a quick wit and high style. Truly loves Monty. Seeking a strong mover. Character mezzo, low F# to high A, belting not required.

Phoebe D’ysquith: Female. Early 20s-early 30s. Beautiful, virtuous, forthright, romantic, comically earnest, yet has a backbone of steel. Sophisticated, yet innocent. Not a typical ingénue, and the actress must have sense of humor and comic style behind her innocence. Coloratura soprano up to a high sustained C# with an optional high Eb. Very flexible and agile, B below middle C on the bottom.

The D’ysquith Family: Played by one actor. Male. 30s – mid 50s. Must be an experienced, skilled, and comedic actor with a keen understanding of British farce. Physical comedy and stamina are essential. Should be a strong character singer. Plays a full range of archetypal English characters:

  • Asquith D’ysquith, Jr. – a dandy.
  • Lord Adalbert D’ysquith – Eighth Earl of Highhurst
  • Reverend Lord Ezekiel D’ysquith – a clergyman
  • Lord Asquith D’ysquith, Sr. – an elderly banker
  • Henry D’ysquith – a country squire
  • Major Lord Bartholomew D’ysquith – a bodybuilder
  • Lady Hyacinth D’ysquith – a benefactress
  • Lady Salome D’ysquith Pumphrey – an actress
  • Chauncey D’ysquith – a janitor

There’s a war going on out there somewhere, and ANDREY isn’t here. (Range: Baritone, F2-Eb3)

NATASHA is young; she loves Andrey with all her heart. (Range: Soprano, G3-F5)

SONYA is good; Natasha’s cousin and closest friend.(Range: Mezzo-Soprano, B3-C5)

MARYA is old-school; a grande dame of Moscow. Natasha’s Godmother, strict yet kind. (Range: Alto, G3-B4)

ANATOLE is hot; he spends his money on women and wine. (Range: Tenor, B2-C#5)

HÉLÈNE is a slut; Anatole’s sister, married to Pierre. (Range: Alto, G3-F5)

DOLOKHOV is fierce (but not too important). Anatole’s friend, a crazy good shot.  (Range: Baritone, E3-F4)

OLD PRINCE BOLKONSKY is crazy, and MARY is plain; Andrey’s family – totally messed up.
