Musical takes Florida Rep audiences back to the ’60s
Florida Repertory Theatre presents Shout! The Mod Musical in the Historic Arcade Theatre now through April 13.
Shout! The Mod Musical takes audiences back to the music, fashion and freedom of the 1960s. The smashing revue tracks five groovy gals as they come of age during the liberating days that made England swing. The musical features infectious and soulful pop anthems and ballads that made household names of stars like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Lulu.
Shout! uses letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements as a frame for new arrangements of chart-topping hits such as “To Sir With Love,” “Downtown,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” “Goldfinger” and others. The musical was created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein, with continuity by Peter Morris.
“This musical revue is known for an irresistible blend of hip-swiveling hits, eye-popping fashions, and psychedelic dances from the 60s” said Greg Longenhagen, producing artistic director at Florida Rep. “Audiences of all ages are sure to be swept up by the energy as they enjoy familiar songs from their youth or discover these popular classics for the first time.”
The cast features returning guest actresses Natalie Brouwer, Renée Jackson and Bailey Reeves (last seen in Beehive: The 60s Musical), New York-based actress Taylor Aronson making her Florida Rep debut and Florida Rep acting company intern Jacqueline St. Pierre (Lucky Stiff).
Florida Rep associate artistic director and ensemble member Jason Parrish (Lucky Stiff) directs the musical and is joined by an expert creative team including music director Matt Cusack (Hank Williams: Lost Highway), choreographer Rebecca Frazier (Florida Rep debut), set designer Jordan Moore (Million Dollar Quartet”, costume designer Kim Griffin (Hank Williams: Lost Highway), lighting designer Julie Duro (“Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story”), sound designer Braden Downing (Fully Committed) and stage manager Alicia Digiorgi (Lucky Stiff).
The production features a live band led by musical director Matt Cusack on bass, Vincent Federici on guitar, Alexander LaPlante on keyboard, Andrew Pongracz on percussion, and Frank Sanders and Jorge Ylisastigui playing saxophone.
