Assistant Education Director
Florida Repertory Theatre is a fully professional theatre company serving all of Southwest Florida and is now in its 26th season as an ensemble-based, artist-driven organization. Florida Repertory Theatre seeks a full-time Assistant Education Director to support the Education Director in managing and maintaining a busy and vibrant Education Department. The ideal candidate will be able to seamlessly transition into the current department and help to maintain its current programming while also working with the Education Director to develop new programming. The Education Department produces a wide variety of programming, including the Theatre for the Young Audiences Series, professional internship training program, classes for youth and young adults, comprehensive summer arts intensive camp, #REPresent Teen Advisory Board, and Conservatory Program that produces up to 3 plays/musicals each season.
The Assistant Education Director will work as part of a 3-person team and, with the Education Director, overseeing the department’s day-to-day operations. The Assistant Education Director works in budgeting, assists in program administration, and acts as a liaison to parents, the Theatre’s staff, local arts organizations, and arts educators. In addition, the Assistant Education Director will teach classes, direct/choreograph/musically direct (depending on skills), and be able to assist the Education Director and the Education Department in all areas of its operations.
While the position is primarily administrative, the Theatre is seeking a candidate who has experience as a teaching artist and a creative leader in the TYA Series, Junior Theatre Festival, and Conservatory Programs as needed throughout the season.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist the Education Director in coordinating program details, including scheduling, planning, and providing resources for all Education programs.
• Assist in season planning for TYA Touring plays, Classes/Workshops, Cabarets Series with Interns and Conservatory Programs.
• Teach classes for students of all ages for the annual Fall, Winter, and Spring Class Session.
• Depending on skills/background, Direct, Musically Direct, Direct or Choreograph productions in the TYA Series, Conservatory Program, and Summer Arts Intensives.
• Assist the Education Director in producing, planning, and managing a comprehensive Summer Arts Intensive Camp program consisting of Camp Florida Rep, which reaches over 500 students ages 9-18, and Camp Mini-Stars for students ages 6-8 summer.
•Assist the Education Director in creating and maintaining a season budget for all programs.
•Hire/oversee teaching artists, summer staff, and creative personnel.
•Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience as a teaching artist or educator.
•Some experience working in professional regional Theatre or Theatre for Youth.
•Experience teaching, creating, developing, and implementing theatre education programs.
•Budgeting and financial management skills.
•Strong organizational, planning, writing, and communication skills.
•Experience with Windows/iOS, Microsoft Office, Adobe, email programs, spreadsheets, Theatre Manager and word processing.
•Experience directing, choreographing, or musically directing in professional Theatre or Theatre for and with young people. Musical direction & piano skills a plus.
Annual Salary: Starts at $37,500
