Painting

To commemorate last season's 10th Anniversary, local artist Myra Roberts created this "vintage" oil painting.

Myra Roberts is an award-winning artist whose oil and watercolor paintings have been featured in several publications, and purchased by numerous private and public art collectors nationwide, including Robert Rauschenberg. She is an accomplished portrait artist, and her commissioned paintings capture the unique personality of her subjects. Myra works as a full-time studio artist on Sanibel, and her work is represented by the Seaweed Gallery on Sanibel and Captiva, as well as Arts for ACT in the Fort Myers River District.

Theatre’s ability to transport us to another time and place is one of the great and reliable feats of magic that we can count on in this world. In times like these, stories and story telling are needed more than ever, and in times of difficulty, people have always found comfort by coming together.

As the lights go down and the play begins, we sit together in a darkened theatre with our fellow audience members, and we allow another reality to unfold on stage. Suddenly our problems seem a little lighter, and our burdens much easier to bear. This is the power of theatre. And when combined with laughter, which we have a lot of this season, it heals the mind and feeds the soul.

This season, Florida Rep will do what we do best – take you to other worlds – magical places of laughter, love, mystery, wisdom and life-affirming stories. Thank you for your support on this journey through life that we share.
