Florida Rep's Education Department is pleased to announce an all NEW & IMPROVED Fall Class Schedule for the fall of 2011. The Education Department has a new home in the Fort Myers River District, and with more space comes more opportunity for expanded programming.

FALL CLASS SESSION A:

Intro to Acting

Ages 4 – 7

This class is a wonderful beginning for the curious young actor. Students will explore their ability to create within the context of imagined circumstances.

Characters for the Stage

Ages 8 – 12

Want to be a villain? Or a wise cracking jokester? How about a leading lady? Students will engage mind and body to create their very own over-the-top characters.

The Secrets of Auditioning

Ages 11 – 17

Designed for teens that want to pursue theatre more seriously, this class will focus on honing the skills needed to create an effective audition package. Students will work on monologue techniques, cold readings, call-back and interview protocols and even how to dress for success. This fun and informative class will culminate with an audition for friends, family and an invited panel of experts.

Film Acting 101

Ages 11 – 17

This class is perfect for older stduents who have thought about giving film technique a try. Covering everything from finding agents and auditioning to how to prepare for the job you land, this course promises to give students and inside look at how to break into the film business.

Film Acting 201

For Adults & Invited Teens

Taught by actor Aaron Jackson from TV’s “California Dreams” and the feature films “Lorenzo’s Oil” and “Children of the Corn”, this class is a focused workshop for the serious aspiring film actor.

Fun With Shakespeare

Ages 13 & Up

Shakespeare doesn’t have to be scary! Students will explore the world’s most famous playwright in a fun and exciting way! Through text analysis, vocal and physical exercises, Education Director Rachael Endrizzi, will take students on a journey through Will’s World that will make the Bard accessible to all.

Creative Characters

Ages 4 – 7

Using basic improvisation, creative movement and imaginative play, students will work on bringing characters to life and onto the stage. This class is perfect for children with active imaginations or as an introduction to the arts!

Story Magic

Ages 8 – 12

From page to stage, storytelling is the heart of theatre. Explore the art of developing great stories. Showcase for family & friends on the final class.

Film Acting 102

Ages 11 – 17

Students in this class must have completed Film Acting 101 or be approved by instructor. This class is an in-depth continuation of Film Acting 101 focusing on new styles and techniques for the film actor.

Auditioning for Adults

For Adults & Approved Teens

This class will focus on how to find auditions and then prepare for them. Using cold reading scenes from a variety of styles, students will walk away with a new-found confidence, a monologue, resume and even a song for those interested in singing auditions. All experience levels are welcome.

Stylish Performances

Ages 13 – 17

Learn, live, and act your way through the ages. Explore popular acting styles from Ancient Greece, the Elizabethan Age, and the Restoration! Since clothes are such an important part of each time period, students will recreate basic period-accurate looks out of simple items from home.  Students will explore characters, plays, scenes, and monologues from each time period. The final class will include performances by each student as a character from their favorite time period.

ACT UP! Creative Concoctions

For Students Ages 8 – 12 on the Autism Spectrum

Working alongside Florida Gulf Coast University’s Occupational Therapy department, students will work on improving social skills, eye contact, verbal and non-verbal communications and spatial awareness all while having fun and meeting new friends! Students will play improvisation games, create their own stories and much, much more!

This is a BRAND NEW program! Have a monologue or song you’re working on? Want to do some improv? Looking for a place to practice? Come on down! Florida Rep’s teaching artists will be on hand to give feedback, notes and help you with whatever project you’ve got going on! Attention is given on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations required!

CLASSES for THEATRE PARENTS:

Help! I Have a Theatre Kid, Part 1

For Parents ONLY!

As director of Education, Rachael Endrizzi has dealt with hundreds of parents, many of whom have no idea what their children are getting into and how to help them. If you find yourself asking “Why is my kid not getting lead roles? What should we be doing? Do we need an agent?” then you can find the answers here! Part 1 of this workshop will breakdown local theatres, where to find auditions and classes, and how to prepare your child for them. It will also answer questions about creating headshots and resumes.

Help! I Have a Theatre Kid, Part 2

For Parents ONLY!

Part two of this workshop discusses how to avoid scams, the secrets of casting, how to help your child deal with rejection, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and prepare for roles in school, community theatre, professional theatre, film and television. Parents will also have the opportunity to return with their children’s headshots and resumes for critique!
