Classes

Throughout the year, Florida Rep offers a wide variety classes for youth and adults that focus on improvisation, acting techniques, dance & movement, characterization, audition techniques and so much more! Seasoned theatre professionals teach every class, and the intimate class size ensures quality instruction and individual attention. Specialized classes are also offered for home school families as well as parent organizations and playgroups.

Florida Rep is pleased to expand its ACT UP Programming, a course specially designed for children on the Autism Spectrum. Students will explore creative movement, verbal & non-verbal communication, social interaction, improvisation, scene and much more. ACT UP gives students a safe environment where they can explore their creativity, excite their imaginations and expand their social skills.

Stupendous Stories

Ages 4 – 7

Children are natural-born storytellers and this class will take their talents to a new level. Collaborating to create their own performance, students will learn what it takes to bring their creative stories to life! Lead by Florida Rep’s Education and Camp Director, Rachael Endrizzi, this class will culminate in a small performance for friends and families.

Scene Stealers

Ages 8 – 12

Young actors in this class will take their craft to a new level by dissecting scenes and rehearsing with partners and small groups. Students at any level of experience are welcome! This class guarantees to stretch each performer and improve basic performance techniques such as identifying style, character analysis and cold reading skills.

Adult Acting: Professional Aspects

Ages 14 and up

This course, taught by Florida Rep’s Associate Director Jason Parrish, will focus on how professional theatre works. Designed for actors with moderate experience, students will workshop monologues and work on cold reading skills, and have an open forum for questions about the business, how it works, and how to break into it.

Character Creations

Ages 4 – 7

Creativity abounds in this class designed to let your child’s imagination take over! Whether it’s fire-breathing dragons or pretty princesses, students will participate in group activities and games allowing them to transform into their craziest creations. Classes will focus on creative movement and voice as well as storytelling and collaboration.

Techniques of Acting

Ages 11 – 17

Think you only do comedy? Scared of Shakespeare? Clueless about film technique? Learn to expand your repertoire to every style under the sun! From Sitcoms to Shakespeare, students will learn the basic principles of performance styles and how to prepare for auditions. This class will focus on scenes in varying styles, how to adjust performances for the camera and the necessary flexibility to work on any project!

Adult Acting: Performance Preparation

Ages 18 and up

Taught by a professional guest artist at Florida Rep, this 6-week workshop will provide actors of varying levels a chance to work on their audition material, gain knowledge of professional theatre and hone their craft through scenes and improvisation.

ACT UP: Acting Class for Students on the Autism Spectrum

Ages 8 – 12

Led by Florida Rep’s Education Director, Rachael Endrizzi and assisted by FGCU’s Dr. Tina Gelpi & graduate students from the Dept. of Occupational Therapy, ACT UP students will have a chance to interact and make new friends while learning basic acting skills. Classes focus on collaboration, verbal and non-verbal communication, creative movement and improvisation. Tailored to accommodate students with ASDs, each child is guaranteed a safe environment where they will explore their creativity, excite their imagination and expand their social skills.
